Bio-innovation survey
Charting the Future of Nature-Inspired Design: Share Your Insights
In January 2010 I launched Bionic City® - which asking, ‘how would nature design a city?’ was the world’s first design studio, consultancy, and collaborative laboratory focused exclusively on exploring nature-inspired design to shape the future of architecture and urban environments. A spin-out of my PhD research, which was initiated that same year, the project played a foundational role in shaping much that followed, including the company into which it is now integrated - Bioratorium®.
Fifteen years ago, the field of nature-inspired design was an outlier pursuit and one populated by a very small, but very dedicated handful of researchers and practioners, most of whom were based out of universities an research labs in the UK, US, and Germany.
Bioratorium®’s latest survey delves into the pivotal ideas, visionary thinkers, and pressing challenges that have shaped this bio-innovation since 2010 — while also inviting participants to reflect on where it may lead us by 2040.
If your reseach and practice lies in bio-inspired, bio-informed, or bio-fabricated architecture, urbanism, interiors, fashion, textiles/materials, or product design your insights are essential. By contributing to this study, you could help forge a richer, more integrated understanding of the field’s trajectory and its possible impacts on issues that count.
Through your reflections, we seek to map the milestones of the past — and to illuminate possibilities of the future. I warmly encourage you to lend your perspective here.
