Skills for Planet Blueprint
Announcing the Launch of the Design Council’s Green Skills Blueprint
I’m delighted to share the launch of the Design Council’s Skills for Planet Blueprint — a landmark publication that defines the critical green skills designers need to meet the challenges of our age and deliver on the Design for Planet mission. The document sets out a common language and framework that unites the diverse voices and disciplines of the design sector, empowering us all to work together with purpose, clarity, and maximum impact for people and planet alike.
I had the privilege of contributing to the early development of the Blueprint, alongside fellow Design Council expert network members including Michael Pawlyn, Ruth Wassermann, and Sarah Wigglesworth. Our shared commitment to ecological, regenerative, and systems-based thinking has long underpinned our work, and I’m pleased to see these values reflected in the Blueprint’s foundations. It is heartening to see this collective intelligence distilled into a resource that will serve both established practitioners and emerging talent in navigating the future of design.
Whether you’re working in architecture, fashion, digital, product, or service design, the skills the Blueprint outlines are essential to tackling the climate, biodiversity, and social challenges we face. I encourage everyone across the design community to explore, share, and embed the Blueprint into their work and practice.
