Sharing thoughts on how can we adapt to the growing risk of wildfires…

Earlier today, I was on-air for France 24, discussing the escalating threat of devastating wildfires across the Mediterranean, the US, and Canada. We explored the sobering reality that record-breaking fires are no longer rare events, but a new normal.

Drawing on my design for living with wildfire research, I shared thoughts on how societies in Europe and beyond can adapt by looking to the plants and other life forms that have evolved to not just survive wildfires, but to thrive in their presence.

As a design scientist specialising in architectural urban resilience to wildfire, I believe the challenge ahead is not simply to defend against fire, but to design in harmony with fire-prone environments. By merging science, design, and policy, my findings suggest that we can build futures that are both safer, yet more sustainable in an era of intensifying climate extremes.
